Located in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province, Lijiang is considered to be one of the prettiest cities on Earth. It is no surprise that every other college grad in China dreams of leaving their jobs to become an innkeeper here.
Lijiang is a beautifully preserved ancient Chinese town and now is a UNESCO Heritage Site. The town has a history of over 800 years as it was once a confluence for trade along the old tea horse road.
The architecture, history and the culture of its traditional residents – the Naxi people is what sets Lijiang apart from other ancient Chinese towns. The old wooden buildings decked with hanging red lanterns and local musicians playing the centuries old Naxi instruments in the time worn streets, display a lifestyle and culture that seems lost in time.
Every building, street and tree is a scenery spot in this town. It offers a multi-ranged scenery with orderly system of waterways and bridges, an awesome mountain view, picturesque gardens and beautiful surroundings.
Hikers, photographers and all outdoor lovers can expect to be spoilt as Tiger Leaping Gorge, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the First Bend of the Yangtze are stunning places to relax and take in the views.
The below photos prove that it is one of those places that you’d love to visit all year round.
